With regard to the development of the National Security Strategy, Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht underlined the importance of having both the willingness and the means to defend freedom and democracy.
The Federal Government is currently preparing a National Security Strategy for Germany. It is the first such strategy created for Germany. It will be based on a broad concept of security, which is why several government ministries are collaborating on the draft. The Defence Ministry is also contributing a considerable share.
In the margins of the closed government meeting at Schloss Meseberg on 30 August, Minister Lambrecht emphasised how important it was to be prepared to stand up for values like freedom and democracy, if necessary with military means – and to create the conditions to make this possible. Also, she added, close coordination with partners and allies during the Strategy’s development would play a significant role in improving armed forces cooperation.
